Welcome to another episode of We the Fellows, and today I get to introduce you to a co-fellow that has already influenced a great deal of change in her environment. Yes. You guessed it. I'm talking about Syeda Rizwana Hasaan who is an environmental lawyer from Bangladesh. Rizwana oversees the planning and administration of the seven offices and 64 employees that make up the Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers Association, while simultaneously carrying her own case load. She has filed and advocated for the rights and interests of the landless, fishermen, farmers, and other affected communities in cases involving encroachment on public property; air, water, and soil pollution; compensation for land expropriation and other disruptive development initiatives. Rizwana is an extremely strong woman leading an important cause in a male-dominated society, and what's most important is the fact that she is making a huge difference. You can find out more about all the fellows and the program at eisenhowerfellowships.org - stay tuned for more podcasts. Until then, this is Rabia Garib, Logging off! |
